ACT 1 It all happened a very long time ago. In a small village near the woods lived a human child named Jenny. Jenny was a sweet child and on this particular day she was picking a bunch of wild flowers for her mother. Jenny knew that she wasnt supposed to go into the woods alone but it is a known fact that the prettiest flowers grow furthest from the path. Without even realizing Jenny strayed deeper and deeper into the woods and before she knew it she was hopelessly lost and the sun was almost gone. Jenny tried to find her way back to the cottage beside the woods but only managed to make her way deeper into the trees. Thats when something magic happened. Jenny didnt know that she had just stepped into a fairy circle and quick as a flash shed been whisked away to the magic forest. The fairy dust began to settle and Jenny began to feel very tired, frightened and alone. Jenny sat down at the bottom of a huge tree and by and by fell into a deep sleep. But Jenny was not alone for in this very part of the woods at the very same time, were two young gnomes, Topsy and Turvy. They were on their nightly patrol, looking for any sick or injured animals that may need help, for this is one of the things we gnomes do. The gnomes had heard Jenny crying and had come to investigate. Topsy was sure it was a rabbit theyd heard but Turvy thought it was a hedgehog. When they saw Jenny, fast asleep they looked very closely and agreed that they didnt know what kind of animal it was at all. Thats when Jenny woke up, she was still very upset, so the two gnomes went over to introduce themselves. When Jenny told Topsy and Turvy that she was a human they were very frightened. The gnomes had been told that humans were very scary creatures indeed. Jenny convinced them that humans can actually be quite nice and the gnomes decided to take her to see Fizzlesnuff, the oldest and wisest of the Gnomes. They all hoped that Fizzlesnuff could tell Jenny how to get back to the human world. Fizzlesnuff told Jenny that she had to travel to the Fairy grotto and get the fairies to make a magic circle for her. The journey to the Fairy Grotto could be dangerous, for the Goblins lived between the Gnome village and the Grotto. Goblins and Gnomes you see have never liked each other. We started arguing so long ago that no one remembers what it was about. But it is a fact that whenever a goblin sees a Gnome they try to catch them and keep them prisoner and make them do all sorts of horrible things, like tidying their rooms and doing their homework. So when ever a gnome sees a Goblin they run, very fast in the opposite direction. Topsy and Turvy agreed to travel with Jenny, to help her find her way home. And so the three adventurers set off in search of the fairy grotto and the magic fairy circle that would be Jennys way home. None of them realized just what an adventure lay in store for them. By evening they had walked a very long way and soon the sun had begun to disappear behind Goblin Ridge. They were still a long way from the Fairy grotto. Thats when they came to a fork in the road. Our friends werent sure of which way to go and decide to rest for a while. Topsy took the first watch, keeping an eye out for Goblins. Soon all three of our friends, tired from their journey, feel into a deep sleep. While they were asleep three goblins arrived and started planning how to capture the three friends. Gobling, the king of the Goblins change all the signs so that the Gnomes would think they were walking away from Goblin Ridge when they were really walking straight into a trap. Topsy was awoken by the sounds of the goblins giggling and soon worked out the goblins were nearby. The very mention of Goblins sent Turvy racing on ahead, towards the Goblin kings trap. So the Goblins had tricked Jenny and the gnomes into going the wrong way, they were on a path that led them directly to Goblin Ridge. The Goblins went on ahead of the three friends changing all the signs as they went. Not only were the Goblins leading them to the part of the woods where all the Goblins lived but they were also heading away from the Fairy Grotto and Jennys only chance of getting home. Suddenly, the path has ended, our friends couldnt go any further, and now the three of them were hopelessly lost. They needed a map. Luckily along came Bartholomew B Rabbit and his assistant Nutso the squirrel. Bartholomew was a travelling salesman and even though he didnt have a map he knew the way to Fairy Grotto and agreed to take Jenny and the two gnomes there. When they turned to go, they found their path blocked by three Goblins. The five friends ran from the Goblins and straight the into the horrible trap that the Goblin king had planned. In a forest clearing was a great big present, Turvy loved presents so she opened it straight away. Now our friends were in trouble. The box had a Goblin sleeping spell in it, and Jenny and all her new friends fell fast asleep. The goblins tied Jenny, Topsy, Turvy, Bartholomew and Nutso together and took them back to their cave. While the Goblins werent looking Bartholomew tried to find the tunnel that let to the surface, but it was no good. Jenny asked the Goblins very nicely to let them go. The Goblins screamed and covered their ears. Goblins you see have very bad manners indeed, their manners are so bad that even hearing the word "please" hurts their big green ears. So Jenny and her friend kept asking very nicely, even saying "pretty please until Gobling agreed to let them go and promised to never again capture a Gnome. So thats how our friends escaped from the Goblins and its also the reason why Gnomes always say please and thank you. Remember; always say please, that way youll know if youre ever talking to a Goblin. Jenny and her friends had managed to end the argument between the gnomes and the Goblins. Gobling kept his word and no goblin tried to catch a Gnome ever again, they were too scared. Once they reached the surface the friends had a long way to go to get back on the right path so our story still has a long way to go too. |
ACT 2 With Nutso and Bartholomews help, they found the path and began following it in the other direction, trying to get as far away from goblin ridge as they could. Especially Turvy, in case you hadnt noticed, Turvy is very frightened of goblins. Soon they were very close to the Fairy Grotto, so the five friends adventure was almost at an end, or so they thought. They raced along the path up the hill and down the other side and before they knew it, they were at the fairy grotto. They looked around in wonder, everything was bright and shimmering, it was very beautiful. And so Jenny saw her first fairy. She was greeted by Peachblossom. Peachblossom was the shortest of the fairies and therefore she was the most important. The shorter the fairy the more important she is and the stronger her magic powers are. The fairies couldnt make a magic circle for Jenny. They needed a special ingredient, the tear of a Dragon. So they sent Jenny and her friends to find one. The only problem with this is Dragons dont cry. Dragons are very big and brave so they never cry in fright. They also have very thick skins, so nothing hurts them and they never cry in pain. Most dragons are hundreds of years old, so theyve seen so many sad and terrible things that they dont even cry when theyre sad. The Dragon that our friends where about to see was a very old dragon indeed. His name was Dunstan and he was over 1000 years old. Thats very old, even for a dragon. The older a dragon gets the grumpier he becomes, so Dunstan could be a very grumpy old dragon indeed. Topsy came up with a great idea; the friends told the Dragon stories and jokes and pulled funny faces. The Dragon laughed so hard he cried and decided never to be grumpy again. Jenny collected the Dragon tear and they all raced back to the Fairy Grotto, holding onto the little bottle containing the magic ingredient carefully and tightly in her hand. The fairies were waiting for them, just as they promised they would be. As soon as the fairies had the tear, they began to make the spell. The fairy magic worked for when Jenny opened her eyes a fairy circle had suddenly appeared in the grass before her feet. She had found the way home. Our friends adventures were finally at an end. They had succeeded in their task. Jenny had her magic circle, and the only thing left to do was to say goodbye. This proved to be the biggest challenge the five friends had faced. They were all very sad indeed for the five friends had grown to care for one another very much. Nutso gave Jenny a big empty book, with "Jennys Adventures in the Magic Forest" written on the cover and Turvy gave her a whistle, so that she could call them whenever she needed them. Jenny stepped into the magic circle and the fairy Grotto the Fairies and all her friends began to disappear. The last thing she heard was Princess Blossom tell her to remember that there was a reason for her visit to the magic forest. Jenny woke up and looked around her, she was back home. Jenny wondered for a moment whether the whole thing had been a dream but she looked down and saw the presents she had brought back with her. Picking up the presents she began thinking of Nutso and Bartholomew, Topsy and Turvy and thought shed try the whistle. To see if it would work and if her friends would magically reappear. She put the whistle to her lips and blew gently, nothing happened. Then she heard them, Topsy and Turvy telling her they could see her. Bartholomew told her that her new friends would always be watching over her and Princess Blossom told Jenny why she had been shown the wonders of the Magic Forest. Jennys visit had ended the war between the Gnomes and the goblins and had made grumpy old Dunstan the Dragon happy instead. Most importantly Jenny had created the best, most powerful magic of all. The magic of friends, during her adventure she had made friendships that would last for always and that is the more powerful then any fairy spell. Blossom told Jenny to tell all the children the story of the magic Forest so that all would know about the Gnomes, Goblins, Fairies, Dragons and the Rabbits and squirrel of course and that is what Jenny did. Jenny opened the book Nutso had given her and began to write down the story, the story you have just read, the story of Jennys adventures in the Magic Forest. Jenny never forgot Topsy, Turvy, Bartholomew and Nutso and they all kept their promise and appeared whenever she whistled. Proving that the magic of friendship is the best kind of magic there is. So there you have it, that was Jennys story, a story of magic, and the adventures of five friends. I hope you enjoyed this little story and maybe learnt a bit too. Next time your walking in the forest alone, watch where you tread, you never know, those fairies may have left a magic circle in your path and you may find yourself having your very own adventures in the magic forest.
