ACT 1-Sc1-King Leopold is
pacing, the expectant father. Finally Elspeth tells him the baby has arrived, it's a girl.
He faints Sc2-"The Royal Christening" During the song Princess Angelina is named and two of her three fairy-godmothers give her gifts. Hyacinth gives her beauty, of both body and soul, Primrose presents her with the virtues of kindness and goodness of spirit. Daffodil, the apprentice fairy is about to give her gift when Nightshade, the bad fairy arrives. Nightshade curses the child. before the moon sets on her 16th Birthday she will prick her finger and die. Daffodil, who has not given her gift yet, manages to change the curse. Angelina will not die but will sleep till destiny awakens her. King Leopold decrees that anything sharp shall be removed from the castle and the princess will watched 24hrs a day. Sc 3-The Castle Gardens, 8 years later-Elspeth, the nanny is looking for the young princess, to get her ready for her birthday celebrations. The nanny leaves and Angelina comes out of her hiding place. She is frustrated by the constant supervision and overprotection and just wants to be alone (song) This is when we meet young Sebastian, the blacksmiths apprentice. Sebastian gives Angelina a birthday gift, a red rose, as he warns Angelina to be careful of the thorns he pricks his own finger, Angelina wraps his finger in her handkerchief. The nanny returns and nearly faints when she sees the rose and takes it from the princess, telling the Angelina to go to her room and change immediately. Angelina stays with Sebastian and they vow to be friends from this day on. (song) During the song there is a passing of time and by the end we see the two friends aged 8 years. It is now the day of Angelina's 16th birthday. Sebastian is about to give her a gift when the nanny enters and take Angelina off. Sebastian admits his love for Angelina. (song) Watching this moment are the three fairies, they ask Sebastian if she liked his gift, he explains he didn't give it to her and exits. The fairies discuss their wards love, it is destiny at work, those two are meant to be together. Sc 4-The Ball Room-The King, Queen and fairy godmothers are celebrating, congratulating each other on breaking the curse (song). Sebastian is seen on the upper level. Trumpets sound and the princess and courtiers enter for the royal birthday celebration (song), while the court celebrates Sebastian gets Angelina attention and she goes up to the balcony to see him. Sebastian gives her his gift, a silver pendant in the shape of a rose. The king sees his daughter on the balcony and the guards grab Sebastian and bring him before the king. The king tells Angelina to wait there and her nanny will escort her to her room. Nightshade appears, Sebastian sees her, breaks free and runs to Angelina. The evil fairy offers the princess a birthday gift, a black rose. As Angelina accepts it Sebastian yells no, arriving just in time to catch the princess who has pricked her finger and fallen asleep. The king breaks down and cries. Sc 5-The woods. Nightshade tells her goblins that finally the curse has been fulfilled. She is not concerned that the princess is only sleeping as it will be almost impossible for anyone to break the curse. The goblins remind her that should the curse be broken she will lose all her powers. Sc 6-The Fairy Grotto. Sebastian is moping as the fairies discuss what is to be done. Sebastian goes into the woods and they decide to put a sleep spell on the entire castle and also on Sebastian. They gather their ingredients and leave Sc 7-Sebastian is in the woods, he plants a rose bush in honour of his lost love. (song) Sc 8-The Ballroom. Angelina is sleeping, the whole court is very upset. The fairies make their spell, Nightshade tells them it will do no good (song) |
ACT 2-Sc 1-The
Ballroom, one hundred years later, there is a topiary rose bush. The fairies are dusting
the king and Queen (song). Nightshade interupts and teases them about wasting their time
the curse will never be broken. She leaves and the two elves arrive (currently only seen
as a lighting effect), they announce that Sebastian has woken up. The fairies plan, what
needs to be done, what they will tell him, and decides he needs help. They weave a spell
that makes the elves grow to human size. Sc 2-Fairy Grotto-Sebastian-is-eating, surrounded by dirty dishes. The fairies arrive, welcome him and promptly send him off on his quest. There are four things to be gathered, one is at the castle, the other he already has. The elves will explain on the way. When he has gone they talk about not being able to help him, that's the rules. The fairies decide all the can do is protect the rose and watch, but they can stop nightshade from watching and cast the relevant spell.(song) Sc 3-Nightshade and co. are watching Sebastian with magic when they lose reception because of the fairies spell. Nightshade sends her goblins to Dragon valley to stop Sebastian gaining the first item. Sc 4-Dragon's lair-Elves explain they need to get a dragon scale. Dragons are a source of great magical power and in order to undo Nightshades spell they will need some very strong magic indeed. The dragon is asleep when they arrive, they sneak up to take the scale when he wakes up. They evemtually discover the dragon is friendly and he gives them the scale. The next thing they need is located at the top of mount grisgold. Sebastian asks what it is and the elves stall, not wanting to tell him they are going to Nightshades castle. Sebastian asks how they will get there, it will take forever to climb the mountain. Avery has an idea. Sc 5-Algernon and the goblins arrive at the dragon valley to stop Sebastian, too late. They realize that Sebastian is now on his way to Nightshades castle and they must get back to warn her. Sc 6-The Dragon Flight. We see the dragon in entirety for the first time. Sebastian and the elves are on his back as he flies them to Mount Grisgold. The elves eventually tell him that they are going to Nightshades castle.(song) Sc 7-Nightshades Altar. Nightshade is trying to undo the fairies spell. Sebastian needs to get her hourglass because it was Nightshade who made the curse, altering the natural order. They steal it and flee. The goblins arrive to warn Nightshade, she is unconcerned until she learns they have befriended a dragon. She discovers her hourglass missing. She prepares to go to the castle and stop Sebastian from getting the silver rose. To make Sebastian's task more difficult she casts a spell. In a split scene we see Nightshade casting the briar spell and the thorns growing in the ballroom. Sc 8-The Ballroom. Sebastian arrives, the fairies and the third item, the silver rose, are trapped behind the magic briar. The fairies cannot help the only way through is to believe it can be done. The fairies and elves try to convince Sebastian he is the one who can break the spell. They finally convince him by revealing he is a prince and Angelina's "soulmate". As he moves through it the briar dies. Sebastian now has the silver rose, which has grown on the rose bush he planted for Angelina. The fairies begin the spell, the last ingredient being the true love of her destined prince. The spell is almost complete when Nightshade arrives and during a battle of swords and magic she steals the rose. All is now lost, the princess will never be woken. Sebastian kneels beside his princess and kisses her. The king wakes and orders the guards to arrest Sebastian for touching the sleeping princess. The-queen points out that he can't because the princess is awake. There is general confusion, the spell could not be broken without the silver rose, then the elves point to the pendant Angelina wears, a rose made from silver. With the breaking of the curse Nightshade loses her powers and is reduced to a mortal. The king banishes her from the kingdom and the court celebrates Angelina's 16th birthday with-prince Sebastian at her side.
